Output Title Curriculum for Qualification Course that gives Warranty for Certification of Quality Wood Processing During the project period the group will develop a curriculum for a specialized course that gives warranty for certification of quality wood processing in Iceland. The course will be based on the quality standards that are being translated and developed by the project partners and associated partners and the teaching material used in the project. The experience of Sweden and Denmark of certifying quality wood processing will be a valuable input into the curriculum. A course of that kind does not exist in Iceland since the certification process is not in place yet and the curriculum will be written in both Icelandic and English to ensure its availability to all participants. This course curriculum also needs to be developed in close cooperation with the Icelandic Standards, which is the national standards body of Iceland, as well as the Icelandic Construction Authority, in order to fulfill the necessary requirements for issuing certifications. The Icelandic Standards and the Icelandic Construction Authority will be associated partners regarding this intellectual output and there will be a close exchange during the work in this output. Final result will be a course that qualifies successful participants to apply for a certification of Quality Wood Processing at the National Standard Organization. This Certification will approve that the holder is capable of wood processing according to specific quality standards.
INSTA 142 fulfills the principles of EN 14081- 1 and is introduced in EN 1912

INSTA 142:2009 is Nordic visual strength grading rules for coniferous timber
This Nordic standard INSTA 142 is a revision of INSTA 142:1997. No similar Work Item is allocated to CEN. Hence application for derogation from Stand-Still is not relevant. INSTA 142 fulfills the principles of EN 14081- 1 and is introduced in EN 1912. CEN/TC 124 will be notified in order to formally include in EN 1912 the revised English version of INSTA 142. This English version of INSTA 142 are published by the Nordic Standardisation bodies in cooperation. Based on this English version of INSTA 142 the National Standardisation Bodies of Denmark (DS), Finland (SFS), Iceland (IST), Norway (SN) and Sweden (SIS) can publish national language versions in Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish respectively.

This European Standard specifies requirements for strength graded structural timber with rectangular cross-sections either visual or machine graded, shaped by sawing, planning or other methods and with cross-sectional dimensions complying with EN 336 (referred to as structural timber in the following clauses). This European Standard includes provisions for test methods, Assessment and Verification of Constancy of Performance and marking of structural timber. NOTE 1 For machine strength graded timber additional provisions for type testing (TT) are given in EN 14081– 2 and for factory production control (FPC) in EN 14081–3. NOTE 2 An acceptance procedure for verification of a lot is given in EN 14358 which may be used for a delivery of structural timber. This European Standard identifies characteristics for which limits have to be given in visual grading standards. This European Standard covers structural timber, untreated or treated against biological attack. This European Standard does not cover: — timber treated by fire retardant products to improve its fire performance; — thermally and/or chemically modified timber; — structural finger jointed timber

At the beginning of 2023, the IÐAN education centre will start teaching strength classification of timber according to the standard ÍST-INSTA 142:2009, which will give students the right to strength grade structural timber.
